ALCYONE in the spotlight

While the Avians were exploring the constellation of Cassiopeia (Avian 3 - Cassiopeia), at the end of last year, the Sequentia Legenda vessel, piloted by Admiral Laurent Schieber, set off for a flamboyant nursery of stars, the Pleiades, which, seen from afar and with the naked eye, would be like a Big Dipper, only more compact and dense. In fact, its splendour originates in the brilliant light of its seven suns, of which Alcyone is the nodal point.

And, as you probably didn't know, our star is part of the complex system of this constellation. Alcyone also has rings, like Saturn or Neptune, but their rings stretch for light years and are made of photon energy. I will not go into the astrophysical and/or esoteric details (which Laurent has elaborated on), this is not the purpose of this review, but you should know that great changes will take place when these expanding rings reach our planet. When? We cannot say precisely, but there is no doubt that life and matter will be totally transformed.

 

And this is what Laurent's music illustrates with mastery throughout these four tracks, the first three of which are around twenty to twenty-five minutes long. His heartfelt music translates cosmic immensity through its unified but distinct dehiscent sonorities.

From the outset, one identifies the parallel universe to that of Master Schulze. Playful, sparkling sequences, very much influenced by the album "Mirage" which was THE revelation for Laurent! It is then as if the ship, after a dazzling acceleration, cuts the warp engine to let itself slide gently on the inertial vapours of the photons' dance. Pure moments of paradoxical eternity, the listener melts into the Universal Consciousness under the caress of the stellar winds.

Transcended even more by the sonorities of "The Ring of Golden Light" which, prolonged by the mesmerizing sequential flow of "Bon Voyage",
pull us into the transdimentional vortex of a Schulzian "Velvet Voyage".

In the end, the Golden Light envelops us and invites us to sublimate matter through an abiogenesis that forces the akashic elevation, the transfiguration of the chakras, the total Awakening of the Kundalini. Disembodiment and quantum entanglement of the soul and the original cosmic essence, sidereal rebirth, where dithyramb becomes weak to qualify the unfathomable depth of Laurent's music. It is the revelation of the intangible, the non-material and the unspoken.

Jean-Claude Leroy (Clavius Reticulus) is a Belgian music reviewer.

MY VISION FOR THE BERLIN SCHOOL IN 2023
A heart to heart sharing

I had the great pleasure to share with you my last opus, I will try here to reveal you some aspects from behind the scenes.

ALCYONE represents for me a beautiful adventure, rich in human, spiritual and musical experiences of course. It is a setting in light, the term is appropriate, on the continuum of my musical vision.

As you may know, my music is now tuned to the frequency of 432 Hz in order to offer the purest sound worlds possible. My goal with this new creation is to continue my heart-to-heart sharing, to infuse more and more serenity in order to help you better radiate your own wholeness.

I have to say that the composition phases have unfolded overall with a pleasant fluidity. Gratitude. I wanted through the various universes composing this album, in the structural form, in the color of the harmonies, in the choice of the timbres, to deliver a connection which is the most in adequacy with my feeling. I wished a sound matter the most favourable to dreams, which is at the same time rich and ethereal and comfortable to the listening. To lay down notes tinged with light that could evoke the freedom between the dimensions of a journey that could be relived each time and in a totally personal way.  

I hope that ALCYONE and its four sound universes will accompany you during your astral and immersive peregrinations, arousing in you for a long time beautiful and sweet emotions.

Three questions about Elevation and ETHEREAL

MY REPRESENTATION OF THE COSMOS

El Jice:
"Is Elevation inspired by the NDEs?
The dark colouring evokes the first steps of the soul in the afterlife.
More precisely in the first strata of the astral journey."

Sequentia Legenda:
  "It's a surprising and interesting approach to my title.

Elevation, is my representation of the cosmos, of the sidereal and astral journey, the song of the High - the universe through its sounds.

For this composition, my wish and my objective were to build a broad, large, deep sound universe. By exploring new technical means and looking for new paths this title was really an exciting experiment.

The slow progression of the introduction is made up of low harmonics, dissonances, multiple reflections, are made to transport the listener to the diffuse, deep and orchestral singing of the universe as I can imagine it. For this opening, the use of an unusually long reverberation time accentuates the effect of size, while maintaining a low density of notes propagating in space. The stereophonic space in correlation with the extreme reverberations is deliberately accentuated to "stretch" the effect of grandeur even further and to somehow "suck" the listener upwards.
I would describe the overall atmosphere as "serious", gradually unfolding with subtle and hypnotic loops towards a more luminous atmosphere.

In the end, with Elevation, I took the initiative to add an additional facet to my musical vision by taking the risk of going beyond my usual guidelines, favouring a tendency to experiment. This title is certainly not the most accessible of my discography. To appreciate it, to explore it, you have to give yourself the necessary time, put yourself in good conditions to fully enjoy it, immerse yourself in this atmosphere in an optimal way and make the desired journey serenely and thus reach a certain fullness."

AN ALTERNATIVE MUSICAL MOVEMENT

El Jice:
"Overall, I felt the album to be disturbing and dark, although it was one of my favourites. Was it an aspect of Berlin School that caught your attention? Or is it a reflection of a current state of mind?"

Sequentia Legenda:
  "The ETHEREAL album is a mixture of "seriousness", sensitivity and nostalgia. When I compose, I am in my bubble, I work alone, varying rigour and freedom - perhaps I am influenced by the German rigour I encounter daily ;-) I am unable to make "commercial" music, mainstream soup, mass music.

If I had to define my music, I would say that it is serious, nostalgic, sincere, that it is against the grain of what is being done and that I am proud of it. This is how I see the Berlin School, as an alternative musical movement, that we must take the trouble to look for in order to appreciate all its magnificence."

THREE CELESTIAL SPACES

El Jice: 
"Is ETHEREAL the contraction of Ether and Real, an evocation of the reality of the invisible world in our existence? In fact, is it a conceptual album about the afterlife or the coexistence of the two worlds?"

Sequentia Legenda:
  "ETHEREAL is vaporous, ethereal, aerial, it is a symbolism between reality and imagination, an immersion, an introspection. It is a minimalist, ethereal and organic sound universe, made up of three celestial spaces to discover: Stratums of Seraphic Voices, Around the Second Moon and Elevation. The musical framework, structure and sounds are refined with a continuous process of transformation over time.

The ether and also the substance of the soul. It is precisely music that comes from the depths of my heart and soul. And if, like the ether, this subtle and volatile substance, ETHEREAL is a creator of effects, sensations, reactions on the body and the psyche, then my bet is won!"

El Jice is a Belgian multidisciplinary artist and music reviewer for the fanzine PROG-RESISTE (www.progresiste.com). There are reviews of many musicians, from Klaus Schulze to Andy Pickford. He is also the author of a novel, LE TOMBEAU DES ETOILES, which will be reprinted in its entirety by Rivière Blanche in early 2019. He reinvents his universe in his illustrations and music (Chrysaldor the Legend, an electronic concept that he is currently reworking).
