To My Mother, a Bearer of Light

✨ Departure for a Celestial Voyage – Extended Version
In loving tribute to my Mother, a Bearer of Light

Mother and son united in love and music

Dear friends-listeners,

November 4, 2025 marks three years since my Mother’s departure into the Light.

This Extended version of Departure for a Celestial Voyage is both an intimate and universal homage — a musical offering dedicated to her soul and to all those who have journeyed to the celestial realms.

These extra 3 minutes and 33 seconds are not just an added length of sound — they are a cosmic breath, a sacred space for reflection and communion.

Through them, I wished to let the music rise gently, like a breath of love and gratitude, a radiant prayer ascending into infinity.

"Nothing can extinguish this sacred bond between souls,
for it is woven from eternity.
Music, vibrations, and energy flow and expand
within the light and within love."

Mother and son united in love and music

TO MY MOTHER, A BEARER OF LIGHT
His presence shines far beyond

There are beings whose presence shines far beyond time itself.

My mother was one of those awakened souls — curious, attentive to beauty in all its forms, and moved by its simplest expressions. Music, in particular, was part of that awakening.

It was she who enrolled me, when I was about eight years old, in accordion lessons. But the heaviness of the instrument, and especially the rigidity of solfeggio, quickly discouraged me. Yet, without knowing it, she had just opened the first door to my musical universe.

A few years later, on November 3rd, 1978, she went to the Temple Saint-Étienne in Mulhouse to attend a Klaus Schulze concert (The “X.” Tour). She bought the timeless, mythical vinyl Mirage, unaware that she was handing me the key to a universe that would forever transform my life. That record was a revelation — a true thunderbolt, the musical spark that ignited it all. That precise moment, that suspended instant, awakened in me the calling of synthesizers, the Berlin School… and beyond that, the call of a sonic and spiritual mission.

It was also she who accompanied me to the store "Aux Guitares" in Mulhouse, where I learned about analog synthesis and how to handle instruments like the Minimoog.

Klaus Schulze concert in Belfort

IT WAS SHE WHO DROVE ME TO BELFORT
Klaus Schulze’s concert on February 5th, 1983

And it was she who drove me to Belfort so that I could attend Klaus Schulze’s concert on February 5th, 1983. At the end of the show, Klaus was still there — adjusting his synths, exchanging words with the few who lingered. Too shy, I couldn’t utter a single word. My mother came back from Mulhouse to pick me up. On the way home, filled with excitement, I confessed to her how disappointed I was for not daring to speak to the man whose music had so deeply moved my soul.

Later, I wrote Klaus a letter — never knowing if he ever read it.

A RAY OF LIGHT by Sequentia Legenda Berlin School music

LONG IMPROVISATION SESSIONS IN MY LITTLE STUDIO
in my parents’ basement, surrounded by my “babies”

I also remember writing a passionate message on the bathroom mirror, using one of her lipsticks, praising the Polymoog, that magical instrument Klaus owned — the one I dreamed of having.

I still recall those long improvisation sessions in my little studio, in my parents’ basement, surrounded by my “babies”:

the Korg PS-3200, the MS-20 with its SQ-10 sequencer, the ARP Odyssey (another synth Klaus used), the Oberheim Two Voices, the Crumar Multiman-S, and many others…

Each time she came downstairs to call me for dinner, I would startle — I was already floating in another world, headphones on.

More recently, when Sequentia Legenda began to shine publicly, I would give her the first versions of my albums. She kept them carefully, listened attentively, and shared her thoughts — always kind, often insightful.

I believe she was proud of me — of my perseverance, my path, and my fidelity to who I am. Besides music, we often talked about deep and spiritual matters.

She would often say: “If only you weren’t so sensitive!”

But I believe, deep down, that was her way of protecting me. She too was a profoundly sensitive soul.

At the end of her life, lying in her hospital bed, when she could hardly speak, we were all gathered around her. She whispered a few words. My father, leaning close, turned to me and said:

“Mom is asking if you will continue with your music.”
I reassured her, asked her to hold on, and told her that a double album was about to be released — The Berlin School Box — dedicated to her and to my father.

Fate decided otherwise: she left a few days later, journeying to another dimension 🙏

🌠 Epilogue – The Song of Souls

Even now, when my hands rest upon the keyboards and the first notes ascend, I feel her presence — gentle, benevolent, and serene.

Every vibration carries a trace of her gaze, her tenderness, her faith in me.

My music is no longer mine alone: it is the living breath of what she passed on to me — that light of love, that childlike wonder for the world, that trust in the unseen paths of existence.

Mother, you who opened the way, you who taught me to listen to the whisper of the infinite, I keep walking, creating, and resonating — to honor your light and let it shine ever brighter.

And sometimes, when I close my eyes, in the stillness between two notes,

I can hear you softly say:
“Continue, my son… music is your offering to the heavens.”

---

During our last conversation, Michael Scanlon made a very specific request: “Laurent, could you one day put together a clear chronology of your discography? I believe it would be valuable for us listeners, to follow the evolution of your universe.”

I found this suggestion both thoughtful and relevant, and I am grateful for it. May these milestones serve as a guide for those who wish to journey through my sounds — step by step, album after album.

DISCOVERY OF BERLIN SCHOOL MUSIC
my Mother who played an indirect but important role

Steven: When did music first „find“ you or „speak“ to you?
Describe that moment/experience.

Laurent: Music has always been part of my life, bringing me serenity, happiness and dreams. I can still clearly remember a snow globe with a traditional wind-up musical mechanism, with this pretty little ballerina dancing to the rhythm of the gentle melody. I was probably between 5 and 6 years old, so that was the first real musical experience I can remember. To my mother's credit, she enrolled me in various activities. Between the ages of 8 and 9, I had taken a few accordion lessons, but the weight and size of the instrument had been a hindrance. As for music theory, I was totally put off by it.

As far as the discovery of Berlin School music was concerned, it was once again my Mother who played an indirect but important role. I was between 15 and 16 at the time, and as I was browsing through my parents' vinyl collection, I was immediately intrigued by a particular-looking cover. It was the timeless album "Mirage" by Klaus Schulze. I fell in love with it and it triggered my musical imagination. It was literally a revelation! I had to discover these fabulous and enigmatic sound machines called synthesizers and explore this new musical universe that had just revealed itself to me.

Steven: How do you prepare yourself for creating music?

Laurent: To tell the truth, there's no real preparation; it's more like a call to creation that comes without really warning and draws me like a magnet to my keyboards. When this creative invitation comes to me, I savour this privileged moment and let myself go, guided towards the first experiments and improvisations. The ideas then emanate, highlighting the overall atmosphere, and the soundtrack is woven together little by little. This process is simply divine, allowing me to connect with the fertile ground of creativity, for an exploration that annihilates all proportions and time constraints. It's a real journey, allowing me to surpass myself and regenerate.

Ultimately, there are several artistic and informative ingredients, elements of a spiritual nature that support this creative phase (texts, images, sounds, the imagination, nature, the cosmos, vibrations, emotions...). With hindsight, I can say that for me, it's truly a benevolent guidance, helping and supporting me during the creative process, throughout my musical journey, in my mission to share, in my freedom of expression. Added to this is the fact that I'm a 'sensitive' and 'receptive' person. My late mother used to say to me: "If only you weren't so sensitive". Without this sensitivity, I don't think I would have been able to share my musical vision with such sincerity.

MUSIC IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF MY LIFE
it's a form of expression, a balance, a freedom of expression

Steven: What role/place does music hold/play in your life?

Laurent: Music is an essential part of my life, and has been for a long time. In fact, it's probably been salutary. It has the power to help and support me, to take me on a journey, to make me happy and free, with no time constraints. And that's what I want to share with my listeners: music that helps, regenerates and stimulates. For me, it's a form of expression, a balance, a freedom of expression. Music is a divine opportunity that I savour with great gratitude 🙏

WORKING AND PLAYING WITH ICE
and share it with others what a joy

Laurent: Can you explain your "working and playing with ice" approach?

Steven: For a few years I was painting highly detailed mandalas and mandorlas that took 100 - 150 hours each to complete. It was super satisfying work but it took so much time and I felt after a while as if I was creating iterations of something that looked somewhat similar to work I had already done.

At the same time, I had been experimenting a little bit taking pictures of ice impregnated with things like aluminum foil, food colouring, flowers etc. and the light source was candles and old flashlights.

One day I noticed that at a certain time of day, the sun would pass through a piece of stained glass that I have hanging near my front door and cast a prism across the floor. I decided to see what would happen when that colourful prism passed through a piece of ice.

I’ve been working and playing with that approach for two and a half years now. Because there are variables that I can’t control - the intensity of the light, the ice melting or breaking (I take all of my ice pictures indoors - year ‘round when light is available!), and my camera’s decisionmaking which is sometimes contrary to what I think I see, I take as many images as I can while the conditions are “right”. It is such literally “in-the-moment” art because everything changes moment-by-moment. I like that. If I can be there for that moment . . . before it is gone . . . never to return. Then share it with others . . . what a joy!!!

YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH ART AND CREATIVITY
refine my availability to the creative force

Laurent: What is your relationship with art and creativity?

Steven: The notion of “working and playing” with creative projects has its roots in a phrase I came across years ago suggesting that “creative work is hard play”. When I am painting, creating ice art, photographing my part of the world, or creating music, I feel a focussed playfulness and then also I’m aware that as much as possible, I need to get out of the way and let whatever is happening happen, in a similar way to children’s play which is often fuelled by their imaginations. Also, art and creativity are strategies that assist me in welcoming whatever it is that needs to find me in order for it to make its way into this world and help me refine my availability to the creative force.

Laurent: A lot of musicians request your photographic work. I'm delighted to be able to benefit from your creative talent too. Could you perhaps explain to listeners how you feel about this new collaboration and how you feel about the music of Sequentia Legenda?

Steven: I’ve been blessed to provide artwork for musicians in many different countries. Musicians who each bring their own unique voice into this world. It’s always a real honour to be asked to provide artwork to accompany or act as a visual portal for the music. Being asked by Laurent (Sequential Legenda) to provide cover art for his latest release is a joy as I greatly admire his music.

Carefully crafted, transformative, beautiful, emotionally rich, are thoughts I have when I listen to his music. His music often brings me to remember the first time I heard Klaus Schulze’s album “Moondawn” when it first came out in 1976. I had heard nothing like it and I was simultaneously ecstatic and transformed by it. Sequentia Legenda’s music has a very similar effect on me.

Presentation: Hi! My name is Steven Leak. I am a Canadian musician, artist and photographer. I love working and playing with the creative force that flows through me. I like to find ways in which to allow that energy to find its way to this place. I experiment with sound and vision. I like those experiments to be as analogue as possible, while also being grateful for the digital technology that allows me to not only work and play with those experiments but to share them with people as well.

BEYOND THE STARS retrospective

How High?
So high that i can touch the sky!

Sequentia Legenda Berlin School music

BEYOND THE STARS: LITTLE BIT OF DREAM,
A MUSICAL ESCAPE, A SHARING OF EMOTIONS

I'm pleased to do a retrospective on my album BEYOND THE STARS.

Released in 2020, this three-track opus aims to shine a spotlight on the purest tradition of the Berlin School. It's an invitation to travel into a musical and cosmic space. Come and touch the stars and let yourself be gently rocked to the rhythm of the sequence.

The album is of course available on my Bandcamp page as a digital version and also as a Digipack CD pressing including a poster. Distribution is also via the Patch Work Music website.

BEYOND THE STARS: A little dream, a musical escape, a sharing of emotions.

Three titles in the purest tradition of the Berlin school.

I wish you a pleasant sound immersion,
Laurent Schieber (Sequentia Legenda)

Sequentia Legenda Berlin School music

1. EXPERIMENTAL:
THE WAY OF PERSEVERANCE AND HOPE

This long composition demanded a great deal of energy and patience from me. Additional rhythmic elements by Tommy Betzler have been added to the basic percussion. The work was worth it, this title sounds today as it resonated deep inside me at the very beginning, a little more than a year ago.

EXPERIMENTAL

2. FLOAT AMONG THE STARS:
A MUSICAL AND MENTAL ELEVATION

The emanations of sequences from the modular Moog open this composition accompanied by the faraway strings of the Solina. The upward journey continues towards a musical and mental elevation. The vaporous atmosphere of the second part is an invitation to float among the stars.

FLOAT AMONG THE STARS

3. BEYOND FROM THE BEYOND:
A MUSICAL AND CONTEMPLATIVE CIRCUMNAVIGATION

The experimentation of a new musical approach for this revisited version of Circumnavigation. A musical and contemplative journey, a navigation around life and eternity – a journey to the beyond.

A RETROSPECTIVE OF SOME TESTIMONIALS
ABOUT THE MUSIC OF SEQUENTIA LEGENDA

It's still just as important for me to get feedback from my listeners, it's essential.

I'd like to thank all those who follow me and support me on this musical path, I really appreciate it.

YOUR MUSIC IMMEDIATELY CAUGHT MY ATTENTION

I discovered your music at the end of 2018 on Bandcamp, and the first shot I heard was "MIND LAKE". As I am a great lover of electronic music, as well as the editor of the only Polish internet radio EL-Stacja promoting exclusively electronic music, your music immediately caught my attention. I am fascinated by the genre of the Berlin School and this style of music is the most important for me.
The music created has a gentle sequential structure that allows you to immerse yourself in your dreams, to think and above all to relax with it. For me, the moments spent with this music act as a balm for the soul, carry everyday problems somewhere far away and give great relaxation and the strength to struggle with reality. This music has a great calming and relaxing power and I am happy to listen to it.

Beata Pardela
(Radio Moderator - EL-Stacja - Poland)

🎙️ Beata Pardela asked a question to Sequentia Legenda: "I would like to know how your music has influenced you, how it has evolved over the last five years, when you have created so many really great and precious pieces, and how you evaluate your work in five years. What are your ideas and plans for the coming years?"

🎙️ Sequentia Legenda: "My influence goes back to my teenage years when I discovered Mirage Klaus Schulze's album by chance. That was my musical trigger. So it was much later, in 2014 with BLUE DREAM, that I took the plunge and brought my musical work into the open. Those first five years were pure joy as I was able to share my passion with success and recognition. I am proud and honoured. These first five years have been a pure joy in that I have been able to share my passion with success and recognition. My dream has come true and my next projects will be in this line with a constant evolution."

FIVE YEARS WHERE EVERY TIME I'M SURPRISED

For me it's five years where every time I'm surprised that you manage to surprise me The challenges in your personal life perspire on the sweetness of your music. Even in its most intense moments. And this sensitivity that you lay down in music responds freshly to mine.

Sylvain Lupari
(Reviewer - Synth&Sequences)

🎙️ Sylvain Lupari asked a question to Sequentia Legenda: "Five years Laurent since BLUE DREAM! Are you satisfied with your evolution? How did you see yourself five years ago? Are you where you wanted to be?"

🎙️ Sequentia Legenda: "Time goes by quickly indeed, too quickly! I am a sensitive and demanding person with myself and I must admit without pretension that I am happy and satisfied with the journey I have made in five years. I have always favoured work, quality, rigour and sincerity. In the end, I am satisfied to find myself five years later in total adequacy with my musical vision of the start! I have made no concessions, I have kept the course I set myself and this is the one that will guide me for the next five years: sharing my sensitivity through my sound universes."

VAST SEAS OF HARMONIC SEQUENCES

My way to Berlin-school electronics was easy but long and took almost 20+ years since I heard it for the first time… there is so much interesting music around, and I explored it step by step, style by style. In the end of December 2015, a friend of mine gave me a tip to «BLUE DREAM» and «AMIRA» – «Man, you’ll like it… I swear». And yeah, I did. That was a sort of enlightenment – vast seas of harmonic sequences that set up a whole Universe of sound… the seas to immerse in, delving neither into psychedelic nor abstruse soundscapes. Straight-forward, simple and even sequencing is the remarkable and one of the most precious advantages of Sequentia Legenda… it forms these breezing soundscapes that carry you upwards and away on its wings of soaring dreams and reveries to the azure faraway distance where the Highmost Welkin meets the Sound of the Sequence. And that’s the way it is.

Anton Uraletz (Russia)

🎙️ Anton Uraletz asked a question to Sequentia Legenda: "My question about your last 5 years is simple – how have you fell in love with sequencing? What does it mean to you?"

🎙️ Sequentia Legenda: "I fell in love with the sequences from the very beginning of my discovery of Klaus Schulze's discography with the two sound universes of Mirage. The sequencer is my favourite tool, it is very often by the setting up of the loops that my creative work begins. The sequencer is my machine for weaving the soundtrack. It is important for me to make several loops of notes cohabit and to bring this harmonic and rhythmic ensemble to life.  My vision of sequencing: Loops in perpetual evolution."

THE ART OF SEQUENTIA LEGENDA

I will start from a distance and tell you how I discovered electronic music and the Berlin school in particular.

...it was somewhere in the 90's, I don't remember exactly. I couldn't sleep at night, so I turned on the radio. There was beautiful, unusual music on the air, not like the music on other radio stations. I stayed on that show and listened to it until morning. Later I found out that it was a program about electronic music called Back to the Universe. Programmed at certain hours of the night, and its permanent host was (and still is) DJ, musician and journalist Martin Landers. Here is his website and information.

This man (his programs) took me into the world of electronic music, which I had never known before, and it was from him that I got to know the Berlin School and other areas of electronic music, Klaus Schulze and many other musicians and bands.

I heard the music of Sequentia Legenda for the first time 3 years ago on https://vk.com/ (it's our Russian analogue Facebook).

Only there you can put music in addition to texts, photos and videos. As a rule, it is pirated, which means that nobody pays for it. I really liked the songs (AU REVOIR, SOLITUDES LUNAIRES, THE APPROACH), and I kept them.

Much later, I decided to search the facebook page of Sequentia Legenda. And I had by chance the release of the new album OVER THERE, which of course I also liked a lot.

And then, Laurent, I recognized your blog, your page on bandcamp.com and all your music. And I also met you and made friends on facebook.

Each of your albums, I discovered it gradually : listen, listen, listen... They are different, but there is definitely a recognizable style, the style of Sequentia Legenda. Each album has a favourite track or even several. I also really like the way your CDs are made: the photo, the design and of course the sound. Thank you very much for your autographs and wishes. It's very expensive! In the age of digital sound, it's very nice to hold a CD (or a vinyl record) in your hands! (At least for me).

What does your music mean to me?
Laurent, for me, what you do on stage is magic. It's magical. I have no idea how it works! Yes, there's an idea, there are means and tools to implement it (synthesizers, computers, instruments). But how it all ends up in this fascinating music - I don't understand! And I don't have to understand it. Magic must contain mystery. But I MUCH like what you get in the end!

At the moment, for various reasons, I am not as actively following news and innovations in the field of music. But when I hear a melody on a radio station, I immediately recognize Sequentia Legenda. How do I feel? If something you like sounds like SOLITUDES LUNAIRES (one of the diamonds in your collection!), I'm delighted. The heart starts beating more often, breathtaking, you fly away... It's not in words!

In conclusion, I would like to thank you, Laurent, for the joy and happiness you bring to us, the listeners, with your magical music. You have always had and will always have a constant and faithful listener who needs you. Keep on creating. I know this is a difficult moment in your life, but let your two suns (Dylan and Valentin), as you once said, light your way and give you strength and confidence. You are a wonderful father, a wonderful musician and, in general, a kind and good person.

I am very happy to have met you and the art of Sequentia Legenda.

I wish you much, much luck and all the best!

Oleg
Parfentev (Russia)

🎙️ Oleg
Parfentev asked a question to Sequentia Legenda: "I'm interested in how the composition is born? Where does it begin? The very beginning. How do you put in your head this melody, this rhythm that will later be a success in your album? How does it happen? (I suspect that creating a melody is a long and tedious process (I might be wrong). But it always has a beginning, a starting point (a starting impulse). What does this mean to you? Share it, please, if you can share it :)"

🎙️ Sequentia Legenda: "The creative phase, begins in a subtle and unpredictable way, it's a call, a magnet that will attract me to my keyboards. Inspiration can come from an image, a story, a sound, a walk, a chance too. Then, in front of my machines, the experimental phase begins, often by setting up the first loops, then the first layers. Then begins the real work of composition, which can sometimes be time-consuming, because I am a demanding person - demanding on myself as well. For example, for my first track FLY OVER ME (BLUE DREAM), it took me no less than sixteen months to be satisfied with the result! Music is an achievement and I always want to put quality before quantity, I want to offer the best of myself for my listeners and for the beautiful musical movement that the Berlin School represents."

Highlighting of ALCYONE by Clavius Reticulus

"This album is a Manifesto, a Book of Life because,
as Laurent (Sequentia Legenda) says,
Love feeds Love which is the primary
Creative Force
of the Universe
and the path to Ultimate Immortality."
Clavius Reticulus

ALCYONE Sequentia Legenda Berlin School music

An exclusive review by Clavius Reticulus
ALCYONE in the spotlight

While the Avians were exploring the constellation of Cassiopeia (Avian 3 - Cassiopeia), at the end of last year, the Sequentia Legenda vessel, piloted by Admiral Laurent Schieber, set off for a flamboyant nursery of stars, the Pleiades, which, seen from afar and with the naked eye, would be like a Big Dipper, only more compact and dense. In fact, its splendour originates in the brilliant light of its seven suns, of which Alcyone is the nodal point.

And, as you probably didn't know, our star is part of the complex system of this constellation. Alcyone also has rings, like Saturn or Neptune, but their rings stretch for light years and are made of photon energy. I will not go into the astrophysical and/or esoteric details (which Laurent has elaborated on), this is not the purpose of this review, but you should know that great changes will take place when these expanding rings reach our planet. When? We cannot say precisely, but there is no doubt that life and matter will be totally transformed.

ALCYONE Berlin School music

And this is what Laurent's music illustrates with mastery throughout these four tracks, the first three of which are around twenty to twenty-five minutes long. His heartfelt music translates cosmic immensity through its unified but distinct dehiscent sonorities.

From the outset, one identifies the parallel universe to that of Master Schulze. Playful, sparkling sequences, very much influenced by the album "Mirage" which was THE revelation for Laurent! It is then as if the ship, after a dazzling acceleration, cuts the warp engine to let itself slide gently on the inertial vapours of the photons' dance. Pure moments of paradoxical eternity, the listener melts into the Universal Consciousness under the caress of the stellar winds.

Transcended even more by the sonorities of "The Ring of Golden Light" which, prolonged by the mesmerizing sequential flow of "Bon Voyage",
pull us into the transdimentional vortex of a Schulzian "Velvet Voyage".

ALCYONE Berlin School music

In the end, the Golden Light envelops us and invites us to sublimate matter through an abiogenesis that forces the akashic elevation, the transfiguration of the chakras, the total Awakening of the Kundalini. Disembodiment and quantum entanglement of the soul and the original cosmic essence, sidereal rebirth, where dithyramb becomes weak to qualify the unfathomable depth of Laurent's music. It is the revelation of the intangible, the non-material and the unspoken.

This album is a Manifesto, a Book of Life because, as Laurent says, Love feeds Love ("Love feeds Love") which is the primary Creative Force of the Universe and the path to Ultimate Immortality.

More than indispensable! More than 5/5!

MY VISION FOR THE BERLIN SCHOOL IN 2023
A heart to heart sharing

I had the great pleasure to share with you my last opus, I will try here to reveal you some aspects from behind the scenes.

ALCYONE represents for me a beautiful adventure, rich in human, spiritual and musical experiences of course. It is a setting in light, the term is appropriate, on the continuum of my musical vision.

As you may know, my music is now tuned to the frequency of 432 Hz in order to offer the purest sound worlds possible. My goal with this new creation is to continue my heart-to-heart sharing, to infuse more and more serenity in order to help you better radiate your own wholeness.

I have to say that the composition phases have unfolded overall with a pleasant fluidity. Gratitude. I wanted through the various universes composing this album, in the structural form, in the color of the harmonies, in the choice of the timbres, to deliver a connection which is the most in adequacy with my feeling. I wished a sound matter the most favourable to dreams, which is at the same time rich and ethereal and comfortable to the listening. To lay down notes tinged with light that could evoke the freedom between the dimensions of a journey that could be relived each time and in a totally personal way.

I hope that ALCYONE and its four sound universes will accompany you during your astral and immersive peregrinations, arousing in you for a long time beautiful and sweet emotions.

I wish you lots of listening pleasure.
